Kolkali and Parichakali are the two popular folk art forms on this island. They are an integral part of the cultural milieu except in Minicoy, where “Lava” is the most popular dance form. Some of the folk dances bear a resemblance to those in north-eastern India.  The main industries of the islands are tuna, coir making, vinegar, jaggery, and copra making. As coconut is the only crop grown in the region, their livelihood depends on it to some extent. Another important part of the Lakshadweep lifestyle is fishing. The Best Time to Visit Kadmat

The best time to visit Kadmat is the period between October and February. The weather in Kadmat is identical to that in Kerala, with bright, beautiful skies and mild, intermittent rainfall. Since this is a tropical island, humidity is expected, and it is highly recommended to wear linen or cotton clothes to avoid feeling uncomfortable in the hot weather.  The temperature ranges from 25°C to 35°C most of the year.

The proximity of these islands to the state of Kerala is clearly reflected in their culture and traditions, especially the cuisine. Lakshadweep cuisine is highly influenced by the Malabar cuisine of Kerala, with flavours of coconut oil and curry leaves in their dishes. The communities inhabiting these islands savour dishes that are exclusively borrowed from Kerala, such as idli, dosa, aviyal, biryani, and the famous Malabar parotta.
