A three-day itinerary to the snow-filled land of Manali

Overview

Touring Manali

Tucked away between the snow-capped mountains is a beautiful region called the Manali. It is a year-round destination with lots of things to do and places to visit. Manali can be referred to as India’s Switzerland.

Day-wise Manali Itinerary

  • 1st Day – Arrive into Manali, Hidimba Temple
  • 2nd Day – Nehru Kund, Great Tibetan Monastery, Rohtang Pass
  • 3rd Day – Sollong Valley, Paragliding, River Rafting, Cable Car

Day 1

Manali is a serene city that can be reached through different modes of transport. If you are planning a trip to Manali, be sure to reach either early in the morning or previous day night. There are several flights to Manali from different cities in India, so travelling is never a problem.

As soon as you arrive into Manali, check into your accommodations and get refreshed. There are so many things you can do here. Be sure to carry weather appropriate shoes and clothing. Once you are done, head to the nearest eat-out and fill your tummy with some yummy food and head to Hidimba Devi Temple. Hidimba is a Demoness God of Bhima, one of the Pancha Pandavas. Surrounded by beautiful cedar forests, the temple is built on top of a rock which is believed to be the Goddess herself. Sip a cup of tea while you relax your noon.

After your holy trip, head to Manali Wildlife Sanctuary. Situated on the top of snow-capped mountains, the Manali Sanctuary is home to some of the exotic plants and wildlife in the world, including animals like brown bears, musk deer, yak etcetera. The sanctuary is open all seven days of the week between 9 AM and 6 PM. Go on an exciting Yak ride and experience what it was like back in the good old days. The entry is INR 10 per person, for adults and kids.

Day 2

Start your day with some positive energy. After a good and a heavy breakfast, head to the famous Buddhist monastery in Manali. Known as the Tibetan Monastery, it is one among the popular places that receive a huge number of tourists. Learn a thing or two about the culture and tradition of Buddhism. While there, take a glance at the handicrafts locally made by the people of Manali. The handicrafts here are sold at a reasonable price, making them affordable and memorable souvenirs to take back home.

Next stop, Nehru Kund. There are several places in the regions of Manali and the other seven sisters where natural springs are quite famous. Nehru Kund is one such famous spring pool in Manali. Nehru Kund receives its water from a nearby lake called as Bhrigu Lake.

After a good warm swim, it is time to get adventurous. You are in Manali, and shouldn’t you be doing what is famous here? Yepp, you guessed it right. Put on your driving gears and go on a bike ride to the other side of Manali, the Rohtang Pass. Quite famous for its roads covered with snow on both sides and the surreal landscapes, it will surely make your heart skip a beat. You can either self-drive or take your partner along on this long journey. Sip a cup of hot tea and chit chat with your friends before you head back down.

Day 3

On your last day here, be sure to try out some of the fun adventurous activities that you cannot experience anywhere else.

Head to Solang Valley. Located 14 kilometres northwest from the centre of Manali, the valley is as picturesque as it can get. Easily reachable by road, Soland Valley is packed with tourists and adventurous sports.

When it comes to paragliding in Manali, Solang Valley is the most favoured spot to many. With a stunning view to look down to, it’ll leave you awestruck! The lush green landscapes, with the touch of snow, is a treat to sore eyes. Reach the heights of the sky with paragliding and let your inner kid out.

Up next, River rafting! Water and sports go hand in hand. For all of those who love having fun in the water, you should definitely try your hands in river rafting. There are different private companies that provide this sport at a reasonable price.

When you are done with the activities, get some lunch to fill your tummy. There are a number of Chinese joints in Salong Valley that serve you with some filling comfort food, both veg and non-veg. Hog nicely and go on a ride on the cable car. It is the best way to relax while you allow time for your food to digest. Enjoy the breathtaking view and click some Instagram worthy pictures up high in the car.

Later in the evening, set a date with your family or loved ones and go skiing in the Solang Valley. If you are visiting Manali during the months of December to February, it’ll be the best time to Ski.

After a very tiring and a long day, we suggest you head back to your accommodation and have a good night’s sleep and head back home the next day.
