The Wonderland of Munnar

Situated in God’s Own Country is a beautiful paradise to all those who love nature. Munnar is a romantic hill station in Kerala for travellers of all ages with diverse things to do. Just like the saying ” Love is in the Air”, fall in love with Munnar at every step of the way. Located over 5200 feet above sea level, the hill station is enchanting and charming. Munnar has got a wide range of flora and fauna and is also home to some of the unique plant and animal species.

Day-wise Munnar Itinerary

Day 1

Munnar is a beautiful place to visit. Surrounded by tea estates and clouds, the place is truly a beauty. As soon as you arrive in Munnar, check into your hotel and get refreshed. Journeys can be long and tiring, so take a quick power nap and get refreshed. In the afternoon, head to a nearby and taste the famous dishes of Kerala cuisine. It doesn’t matter if you are vegetarian or if you eat meat, the cuisine has something for all kinds of food lovers.

After a fulfilling lunch, head to Kundala Lake. It is an artificial dam built on the way up to Top station. Spot the rarest flowers – Neelakurinji, a flower that blossoms once in 12 years only or go on a boat ride. The lake has a splendid view that every individual can view. The view is truly scenic and breathtaking. Going on a boat ride can be a beautiful way to enjoy nature. Get wet in the dew drops that are on you while you go boating amidst the foggy cloud. The Kundala can be visited by paying an entree fee of just Rs 10 per person.

If you are planning to go on a boat ride, be sure to negotiate the price for boating. There are no fixed prices as such and you might end up paying a lot. INR 350 would be an ideal amount to be paid.

Day 2

Next in the itinerary, on your second day in Munnar, start the day with a scrumptious breakfast. Head to Lakkam Waterfall. Located in between Munnar and Marayoor, the waterfall is surrounded by tall trees and blissful cascades. If you happen to love swimming, head to their pool areas, known to be a safe and cleanest spot. While you are there, enjoy a picnic with your family and loved ones.

Once you are done chilling at the waterfall, head to Eravikulam National Park. Located in Kannan Devan Hills in Munnar, the park is quite famous for Nilgiri Tahr and it is one of the astonishing National Parks in Kerala. The Nilgiri Tahr, considered to be endangered has made a home at Eravikulam Park. Explore the dark forest and sanctuaries of Munnar by going a wildlife safari ride.

Daring hearts! Let’s explore the thick and dark forests, biosphere reserves, national park and sanctuaries of Munnar. Who knows, you could be lucky to spot some endangered and nearly extinct animals and birds. The largely visited and famous wildlife areas of Munnar are Eravikulam National Park, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary and Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary. Spread across 97 square kilometres, the park is home to many animals and birds. The park is open to the public throughout the week between 7 AM – 6 PM. The entry fee for the park is INR 90/-

Day 3

Start your day a little early. Head to Echo Point located at Kannan Devan Hills. Go on a small trek and reach the viewpoint of Echo point. Echo point is a famous tourist spot filled with locals and travellers visiting here over the weekend. If you love nature, head here early in the morning to catch a breathtaking sunrise as the cold wind brushes your face smoothly.

Post an eye-catching sunrise head to Carmelagiri Elephant Park. Located in the rocky regions of Munnar is this elephant park. Go on elephant rides and aid your kids to learn more about them. Give them a chance to have their ‘haathi mere saathi’ moment and have fun in the wilderness.

Finish your day by visiting Kolukumalai. The region is famous for tea plantation. Breathe the fresh aroma of tea. Located above 7900 feet, Kolukkumalai is one among the highest tea plantations to exist in the world. Visit the old tea factory cum museum and obtain the knowledge of how tea is produced. Buy different flavours of tea from the factory to take something back home. The tea factory is open on all days throughout the week except on Sundays. The entry fee to enter the factory is INR 75 per person.

Day 4

Vacationing can also be tiring at time. Kerala is quite famous for spices and its aromatic and therapeutic oils and massages.
