Kazbegi lies on the border of Georgia and Russia, about 100 kilometres (68 mi) north of Tbilisi. The starting point of the climb is the village of Kazbegi (1730 m or 5,676 ft) located on a famous road connecting Tbilisi and Vladikavkaz in Russia. Public transport from Tbilisi takes about 3 hours.
