It is the summer residence of the Crawley family. This Georgian mansion hosts tours, events, art exhibits, and more. Lincoln Castle has a jail in it which is used in Downton Abbey when John Bates is accused of murder and sent to York prison. The enormous castle was built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror. The castle was used as both a court and a jail in past times. Now it is used as a museum and visitors are welcome to take tours of the medieval castle.
Built-in the late 1700s, West Wycombe house was designed for Sir Francis Dashwood’s 2nd baronet but has been run by the national trust since 1943. In the show, Lady Rosamund Painswick, Lord Grantham’s sister makes this beautiful house her residence when not in the capital. Many interior shots during the second half of the series were shot in the house. Now it functions as a museum and is open to the public for viewing.
