The nearest airport to Nuwara Eliya is the Colombo International airport lying at a distance of 167 km. You can hire a private car or taxi to reach near the Nuwara Eliya from Colombo. If you want to reach the place by bus, there are two routes from Colombo – one via Hatton and another through Kandy. The ride may be a bit tedious because of narrow and bumpy roads but you can have a line of amazing sceneries throughout your journey. You can choose to come via the Hatton route as it is less bumpy and clearer.

You will have to hike a certain distance as the falls lie in the mountainous region with an altitude reaching almost 1198 m. Laxapana Falls

Another beautiful waterfall in the region of Nuwara Eliya is the Laxapana falls. It is the eighth-highest waterfalls in Sri Lanka making it one of the most famous tourist spots in the country. The falls also leads to a natural pool at the end where you can have a natural bath. But be careful and don’t go under the direct line of falls as the force is immense.


The Pidurutalagala is the tallest mountain peak in Sri Lanka with an altitude of 2524 metres. The place is so beautiful with amazing landscapes coupled with the green might of nature. The mountain is also known as Mount Pedro. The mountainous is a significant part of Sri Lanka as it is used as the base for Sri Lankan Army. Owing to this, the people won’t be allowed to climb. Galway’s Land National Park

Galway’s Land Nation Park in Nuwara Eliya is one of the many national parks of Sri Lanka. Don’t be fooled by the small size of the park as it constitutes a variety of wildlife species. The ecological diversity ranges from exotic birds to unique animals. There are around 20 rare migrant bird species along with the 30 native species in the park which spans over 27 acres. The park is open between 10 am and 5 pm.
