This place also has some serious historical sites, castles and is hugely a cultural related destination. This place was inhabited by a subcategory of Georgians. Samegrelo province includes Zemo Svaneti as well. Zugdidi is the capital of the province. The bordering provinces are Guria, Svaneti, Imereti and Abkhazia. 1. Dadiani Palace

The province of Samgerlo was under the Dadiani dynasty for a very long time. This was the house of the royal family comprising of the 4 major attractions. Queen’s Palace, Botanical gardens, Kari Church and finally the massive Prince’s Palace. In 1921, this prestigious house was converted into a museum and was opened for Public access. This place showcases some of the rarest and unheard items. In fact, the death mast of the emperor Napolean is stored is displayed here.

The house is also known for creating some of the noblemen for the country. Starting from Writers, poets, statesmen and even some athletes. There are three main sections in the gallery. The first one shows the geography and the role of Samegrelo in the nation’s history. Their lifestyle paintings and some of their spiritual things are showcased in the second section. Also, the third section is solely for the paintings of the noblemen from this province and Dadiani family.

2. Enguri Dam

Nikita Khrushchev the Soviet president, formulated the plan of building a massive dam for the purpose of harnessing the water energy. The initial plan was to build it on the Bzyb River, but then the scientist who had done deep research found out that it would lead to a disastrous landslide. Because of this, the plan was moved to Enguri. The construction began in 1961 and was already in the operational stage by 1978. But the complete operation with all its systems working was in 1987.

Nowadays, this place has turned into a significant tourist attraction due to its stunning views of the waterbody and the greenery surrounding it. The place has recently been added to the list of cultural heritage places in Georgia. This also holds the title of the second-largest dam in the world. The total construction and maintenance cost was around 130 million Euros. The list of things to do in Samegrelo won’t be complete without Enguri Dam.

3. Kolkheti National Park

Georgia, in general, is known for its rich natural resources and the abundance of wildlife. This is one of the best national parks in Georgia. The Kolkheti is the perfect example to showcase Georgia’s variety of wildlife. This park is located on the west coast of Georgia along the Black sea. In fact, this massive park covers few regions of the capital, Abasha and Senaki spanning for about 742 square kilometres. The water in this river has a unique colour that you might not be able to see quite often. The tranquil water is in emerald green colour and researches say that it is because of the reflection of the greenery and also the minerals that are deposited on the river banks. Apart from this, there is a Monastery located nearby this attraction which dates back 10 – 14th centuries.

5. Anaklia-Ganmukhuri pedestrian bridge

This place houses another architectural marvel in the form of the Pedestrian bridge. The bridge spans across the Enguri river on to the town Anakila. This was initially planned to be built using steel. But due to some unforeseen financial crisis at that point in time, the Architects had to look out for an alternate material with low cost.

That’s when the partnership between the local and the international architects started turning the table. The result was a 552-metre bridge built using timber hung by just cables. This surely is one of the best things to do in Samegrelo.
