During earlier times, this used to be the ruling seat of the Georgian king. 6. Chiatura

It is a quaint little town located in the midst of valleys and gorges. Popularly known as the ‘cable car city’, Chiatura also has an interesting history associated with it. During the early 1950s, the then ruling Stalinist government had built the cable car system for labourers working in the mines. Although a majority of these cables cars have rusted beyond repair, some of them are still functional and in fact serve as active public transportation! Pretty cool right? 8. Katskhi Pillar

This is one of the most surreal places to visit in Georgia. Katskhi Pillar is a true marvel and an unreal location which will make you put on your thinking cap. It is typically a limestone monolith which is about 40 metres high and is also referred to as the ‘Pillar of Life.’ The most mind-boggling part of the Katskhi Pillar is that a church has been built on top of it! But how exactly were the designers or architects at that point of time able to climb up a monolith and build a church? This is a million-dollar question which has left even the best researchers tongue-tied. It was only during the early 1940s that researchers had discovered a way to climb up the monolith and explore the church.
