2. Bragernes Torg

The city square in Drammen is the biggest in Norway and is one of the biggest in Scandinavia. But do you know the painful past behind this? During 1866, there was a great fire which engulfed around Drammen. This fire led to widespread destruction of the buildings within the city. This is because the buildings were jam-packed. Hence, the locals learnt their lessons and didn’t want to repeat the same mistake.

Therefore, the buildings in the city centre are built with a large amount of space between them. Subsequently, this led to the city square being the biggest in Norway. You get to experience an unbroken view of the Drammen river on either side. During winter, there is a massive ice rink in Bragernes Torg. And during summer, this houses a theatre and concerts. All in all, Bragernes Torg is well and truly an entertainment hub. Consider visiting this as a mandatory in the list of things to do in Drammen!

At the intersecting point of the city square and city bridge, lies an architectural marvel – Bragernes Kirke. Bragernes Kirke, a brick-built structure, was consecrated in 1871. This is not yet another cathedral you would find across your Norway vacation. The church was built in neo-Gothic style, which is quite a fashion statement at the time when the church was built. And one more unique point is that the choir is oriented to the North as compared to the traditional practice of East. The tower of this church is about 64 metres high, and you get to see amazing paintings inside this church. This will leave you with a tinge of ancient flavour that will leave you asking for more and more!
