Flights for Andaman

The fastest way for tourists to reach Andaman is by flight. Indians have no permit restrictions for Andaman. There are a number of direct flights to Andaman beginning from Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai; with a travel time of approximately 2.5 hours one way. Connecting flights to these destinations are also available from most other cities. Flights from Delhi fly via Chennai or Kolkata can take about 5 hours to reach

As per current schedules, there are several flights departing from Chennai to Port Blair every day. The timings of the flights from Chennai are available from about 5 am to 12 pm. Passengers landing in between, will have a few hours to while away at the Chennai Airport.

Reach Andaman by Ship

Tourists can avail passenger ships to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata and Vishakapatnam. The sailing schedules of these ships are announced a month in advance, passengers need to keep a lookout for it. The Andaman government website is where tourists can find the list on how to reach Andaman. 

Travellers also need to keep in mind that these are just regular passenger ships and not cruise liners and so, travellers won’t have entertainment options or super luxuries while onboard the ship. All ships docks at Port Blair, with travel journeys of about 50 – 60 hours.  

Flying in a private plane to Andaman

The benefit of a private flight would be the advantage of missing out on connecting flights and layovers, thus letting you travel as per your own schedule. Tourists considering this option would have to connect with a local expert who can organize your flying permit, permissions from various authorities, ramp services, ground handling services, customs, immigration clearances, hotel accommodations and transport.

Sea Planes were a commonly used mode of transportation about 3 years ago. But as of today, they are not functional in Andaman. It is unsure when they will begin to be operational in the future either. So, no tourists cannot take a sea-plane transfer to Andaman.

2. Can I take helicopters around Andaman?

Helicopter services are available around Andaman.

3. Are government or private ferries a better option?

If you’re travelling between Port Blair, Havelock and Neil, then the Private ferries are an ideal option for you; as they’re super fast and provide for a hassle-free booking.

If you’re looking to interact with the locals and are on a budget, the Government ferries are the right choice. If tourists are hard-pressed for time, then it’s advisable for them to take a private ferry instead.
