How to reach the Andaman Islands? 

By Air

Reaching Andaman by flight is the easiest and most feasible way of all. Although it can be a little heavy on the pocket, travelling by flight is the fastest and most comfortable way to reach the island. If you are travelling for a week-long vacation, we suggest you travel by flight as it is less time consuming and so you can spend your days exploring the island. Also, the overview of Andaman right before landing is as beautiful as it can get.

Check your flight timings before booking a flight. Make sure you research thoroughly on the transit times. There are few cities that connect to Andaman directly without any stopovers. Below is some information on it. 

Port Blair

The airport in Port Blair, also known as the Veer Savarkar International Airport, is named after a freedom fighter and is the only commercial airport used in Andaman and Nicobar islands. 

Chennai to Port Blair

From Chennai, there are 65 direct flights that run throughout the week that connect to Port Blair directly. The duration of the flight is about 2 hours and 10 minutes and it operates between 5 AM – 12 PM. 

Kolkata to Port Blair

Though situated little up in the north, it takes only 2 hours and 30 minutes to fly to Port Blair from Kolkata. There are about 60 direct flights running throughout the week between 5:30 AM and 11 AM. 

Delhi to Port Blair

Several flights operate from Delhi but every flight has layovers. The approximate time of travel is about 3 hours and 30 minutes and changes on the layover.

Bangalore to Port Blair

There are several connecting flights from Bangalore to Port Blair and no direct flights. The duration of travel is generally 4 hours on an average and it changes from time to time based on the flight one picks. 

Mumbai to Port Blair

There are no direct flights to Port Blair from Mumbai. However, there are a number of connecting/hopping flights from Mumbai throughout the day by various airline operators. The approximate duration of travel is 4 hours and 30 minutes on average. 

By Ship

The idea of travelling to the islands of Andaman in cruise is not that popular among tourists. For tourists or travellers who plan on 10 – 15 days long leaves, travelling by cruise may be ideal as it gives a brand new experience. Floating on the Bay of Bengal, watching the sunrise and sunset from the ship can be close to surreal and one of a kind experience. The cost to travel by cruise can also be low as compared to flights at times.

There are cruises available from Chennai, Vizag, Kolkata and other major ports from India and it takes about 3 days roughly to reach the mainland of Andaman.
