Say Maldives, Say Manta Rays!

Manta Rays are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful creatures of the underwater kingdom. The way they effortlessly move through the water will leave you awestruck wondering how beautiful mother nature is. Well, if you are one to seek adventure and wouldn’t mind a swim or two alongside the Manta Rays, Maldives is the place to be. Undoubtedly the Maldives is one of the most mesmerizing places on earth not far from the southwest part of the Indian Ocean. A small independent island country often considered as ‘Paradise on earth’ is the go-to place for a swim with the Manta Rays.

Hanifaru Bay which is situated in the Northern atolls of Maldives is a Manta Ray hotspot and is ideal for snorkeling or scuba diving. Manta Rays are harmless creatures unlike Sting Rays and make great swimming partners. Although their big size may seem intimidating, they really don’t mind the company of someone else in their space.

The peak season for swimming with the Manta Rays is from the month of May to December. It is during this season that there is extensive growth of Plankton in the waters which attracts the Manta Rays. Be fortunate to take in the beauty of these creatures as you swim alongside them and brace for an experience of a lifetime. An interesting fact to note is that every fortnight whenever it is a full moon, Manta Rays gather in large numbers making it a jaw-dropping spectacle.

How to reach

There are plenty of modes of transport to reach Hanifaru Bay in the Baa Atoll which is towards the northern part of Maldives, the common ones being:

Via Seaplane- Travelling by seaplane itself can be an experience that is one of a kind given that it has the luxury to it. It is also one of the fastest ways to reach Hanifaru Bay as it is situated closer to the airport.

Via Domestic flight- This is different from the flight that one would take to reach Male International Airport. From the main airport, another interlinking flight is taken to the island. This is the fastest mode to reach Hanifaru Bay.

Some other modes of transport include transfer via speedboat and by passenger boat which might take a little longer compared to other modes. But it is all worth the wait to experience this dreamy adventure.
