The Initiative

Alok Gupta, the Principal Secretary of the Tourism Department said, “The department has released comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) for hotels, film shooting, and tourist venues. The department is promoting the ‘Short Stay, Safe Stay’ concept to ensure that travel enthusiasts from nearby states can come to rejuvenate in a safe and secure ambience.” Considering that the festival season is around the corner in India, the Tourism Ministry of Rajasthan has decided to make the state a safer environment for tourists.

All efforts are being taken to ensure that their economy is up and running due to which a task force has been assigned to supervise the process. Different forms of tourism like tribal tourism, desert tourism, wellness tourism and MICE tourism are being kept open as options. The tourism department will monitor the response to each form of tourism following which an analysis will be derived for future trends.

Although the current scenario is such that social distancing and mask norms have to be followed, Rajasthan as a state is trying to prove that safe travel is the new normal. A new form of tourism which is being encouraged currently across India is short getaways for the weekend. Rajasthan is also trying to carve a niche in this sector to ensure that there is some form of revenue generation from tourism. With Rajasthan being the destination wedding hub, a major target audience will be the wedding market. If all goes well, the ‘Short Stay, Safe Stay’ initiative undertaken by the Rajasthan government will prove to be one of the most successful ventures.
