Top Sri Lanka Tour Packages to Choose From
Sri Lanka Honeymoon Tour Packages
Sri Lanka is quietly one of South Asia's most romantic honeymoon destinations, and remains charmingly underrated compared to the Maldives or Bali. Luxury beach resorts, heritage boutique stays within the walls of Galle Fort, misty tea estate bungalows, and intimate private dining experiences set the stage for an unforgettable honeymoon. Given the island's compact size, couples can move seamlessly from the cool hills of Nuwara Eliya to the tropical coast at Unawatuna, all within a single Sri Lanka honeymoon package.
Popular honeymoon experiences include:
- Boutique heritage hotels within the cobbled lanes of Galle Fort
- Private beach dinners along the south coast
- Luxury tea estate stays in Ella and Nuwara Eliya
- Sunrise hot air balloon rides over the Cultural Triangle
- Couples' spa retreats at wellness resorts in Bentota
- Whale and dolphin watching cruises off Mirissa
- Romantic evening walks along Unawatuna Beach
Sri Lanka Family Tour Packages
For Kolkata families, Sri Lanka ticks every box: wildlife adventures your children will talk about for years, cultural landmarks with real historical depth, and relaxed beach stays to wind down at the end of the circuit. From the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Yala leopard safaris to scenic train rides through tea gardens, a well-planned Sri Lanka family package from Kolkata can cover it all, comfortably, across age groups.
Top family attractions include:
- Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage (home to one of the world's largest captive elephant herds)
- Yala National Park jeep safaris (among the highest leopard densities in the world)
- Minneriya National Park elephant gatherings (one of Asia's largest wild elephant concentrations)
- Sigiriya Rock Fortress climb
- Dambulla Cave Temple
- Udawalawe National Park (excellent elephant sightings)
- Turtle hatcheries in Kosgoda and Rekawa
- Whale watching in Mirissa (blue whales, the largest animals on Earth)
- Colombo National Museum and Dehiwala Zoo
Sri Lanka Luxury Tour Packages
Sri Lanka punches well above its weight when it comes to luxury travel. Cliffside infinity villas, colonial boutique hotels inside Galle Fort, tented lodges on the edge of national parks, and iconic tea estate bungalows rival some of the finest properties in Asia, at a fraction of what comparable experiences cost in the Maldives or Southeast Asia. Sri Lanka luxury packages from Kolkata offer exceptional value for discerning travellers.
Luxury experiences include:
- Heritance Kandalama (Geoffrey Bawa's cliffside architectural masterpiece)
- Amangalla in Galle Fort (graceful Dutch-colonial luxury)
- Cape Weligama cliff-top infinity villas overlooking the Indian Ocean
- Wild Coast Tented Lodge within Yala National Park
- Santani Wellness Resort in the Kandy hills
- Ceylon Tea Trails (the original and iconic tea estate bungalow experience)
- Private catamaran whale-watching cruises
- Helicopter rides over the hill country

Best Places to Visit in Sri Lanka
1. Sigiriya and the Cultural Triangle
The Cultural Triangle forms Sri Lanka's historical core, anchored by the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa and the extraordinary Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Rising dramatically above the surrounding jungle, Sigiriya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with ancient palace ruins, vivid 5th-century frescoes, landscaped water gardens, and sweeping views from the summit.
The nearby Dambulla Cave Temple features some of the finest cave Buddhist art in Asia, with over 150 statues carved into rock. The region also draws wildlife enthusiasts. Minneriya National Park's famous elephant gathering between July and October is one of Asia's most remarkable natural spectacles.
2. Kandy
Kandy is Sri Lanka's spiritual and cultural heart, nestled among misty hills and lush tea-covered slopes beside a tranquil lake. The city is best known for the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of Buddhism's most venerated pilgrimage sites and a near-unmissable part of any Sri Lanka itinerary.
The evening puja ceremony, with traditional drumming, incense, and chanted rituals, offers a deeply moving glimpse into Sri Lanka's religious heritage. The Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, colonial-era architecture, and the city's mix of Buddhist and Hindu places of worship also resonate warmly with visitors from Bengal and eastern India.
3. Ella and Nuwara Eliya — The Hill Country
Sri Lanka's Hill Country is defined by rolling tea gardens, mist-shrouded mountains, sparkling waterfalls, and what many consider the world's most scenic train journey. The Kandy to Ella ride passes through valleys, colonial viaducts, and green tea estates at an unhurried pace that is itself an experience.
Ella is a relaxed hill town known for the Nine Arch Bridge, the easy hike up Little Adam's Peak, and stunning sunrise viewpoints above the valley. Nuwara Eliya, often called "Little England", offers cooler air, colonial architecture, tea factory visits, and landscapes that Kolkata visitors often compare fondly to Darjeeling. Together, these two hill destinations form one of the most scenic stretches of any Sri Lanka holiday package.
4. Galle
Galle is Sri Lanka's most visually striking coastal city, built around a UNESCO-listed Dutch fort that juts into the Indian Ocean. Within the fort's cobbled streets, boutique hotels, art galleries, jewellery workshops, and colonial heritage buildings coexist in a way that feels simultaneously historical and alive.
The walk along the Galle Fort ramparts at sunset is one of the island's defining experiences. A short drive away, Unawatuna beach offers calm waters, golden sand, beachfront cafés, and a relaxed tropical atmosphere that makes it particularly popular with couples and honeymooners. History, luxury, and beach access in a compact coastal corner, Galle is hard to beat.
5. Mirissa and the South Coast
Mirissa is among Sri Lanka's most-loved beach destinations, known for palm-lined shores, turquoise water, and a lively café and bar scene. Between November and April, it is also one of the world's best locations for blue whale and dolphin watching.
For those seeking quieter stretches, Tangalle offers unspoilt beaches with almost no commercial development, while Bentota is a strong choice for water sports, luxury resorts, and family-friendly coastal stays.
6. Yala National Park
Yala is Sri Lanka's most celebrated wildlife destination and one of Asia's premier spots for seeing leopards in their natural habitat. Beyond leopards, the park is home to elephants, sloth bears, saltwater crocodiles, wild buffalo, and an impressive variety of bird species.
Early morning and late afternoon jeep safaris deliver the best sightings, making Yala a consistent highlight for nature-loving Kolkata travellers. For a less-crowded alternative with equally strong leopard sightings, Wilpattu National Park in the northwest is worth considering.
7. Colombo
Sri Lanka's capital is a city of contrasts, colonial history alongside gleaming high-rises, local markets next to rooftop cafés, neighbourhood temples beside boutique concept stores. For Indian travellers, Colombo offers a sense of cultural familiarity wrapped in a distinctly Sri Lankan character.
Key attractions include Pettah Market (a bazaar that Kolkata visitors will find intuitively navigable), Gangaramaya Temple, Galle Face Green, and the National Museum. The Colombo 7 and Cinnamon Gardens neighbourhoods are known for upscale dining, art spaces, and shopping. Colombo makes an excellent start or finish point for any Sri Lanka itinerary.
8. Trincomalee and the East Coast
Sri Lanka's east coast remains refreshingly off the main tourist trail, best visited between May and September. Trincomalee and Nilaveli offer white-sand beaches, excellent snorkelling at Pigeon Island Marine National Park, and whale watching from a quieter vantage point than Mirissa.
The Koneswaram Temple, a significant Hindu site overlooking the ocean, carries cultural resonance for many visitors from West Bengal and eastern India. Arugam Bay, further south, is Sri Lanka's premier surfing destination, with a relaxed international vibe and strong café culture.
9. Ramayana Trail in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka holds deep mythological significance through its connection to the Ramayana, and several key sites associated with the epic are woven into the landscape across the island. The Ramayana Trail is a meaningful and increasingly popular addition to Sri Lanka itineraries, especially for families and spiritually inclined travellers.
Key sites include the Sita Amman Temple in Nuwara Eliya, Ravana Cave near Ella, Divurumpola Temple (linked to Sita's Agni Pariksha), and the Koneswaram Temple in Trincomalee. Kolkata travellers with a strong connection to the Ramayana, central to Bengal's cultural heritage, often find this trail particularly resonant.
Best Things to Do in Sri Lanka
- Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress: Explore Sri Lanka's most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site, ancient frescoes, palace ruins, landscaped water gardens, and jungle panoramas from the 200-metre summit. Entry approximately LKR 4,500–5,000 (Rs. 1,300–Rs. 1,470).
- Ride the Kandy–Ella Scenic Train: Arguably the most scenic railway journey in Asia, passing through tea plantations, mountain passes, and waterfalls. Reserve seats in advance for first or second class.
- Explore Galle Fort: Wander 17th-century Dutch ramparts, browse boutique galleries and cafés, and watch the sun drop into the Indian Ocean. Entry to the fort is free.
- Go on a Yala Leopard Safari: One of Asia's best wildlife experiences, with leopards, elephants, crocodiles, sloth bears, and extensive birdlife in a single park. Shared safaris from approximately LKR 10,000–15,000 (Rs. 2,940–Rs. 4,400).
- Witness the Minneriya Elephant Gathering: Between July and October, hundreds of wild Asian elephants converge around the Minneriya reservoir, one of Asia's most extraordinary wildlife gatherings. Safari costs LKR 8,000–12,000 (Rs. 2,350–Rs. 3,530) including jeep hire and entry.
- Watch Blue Whales in Mirissa: From November to April, Mirissa offers world-class blue whale and sperm whale encounters. Boat cruises range from LKR 4,500–8,000 (Rs. 1,320–Rs. 2,350) per person.
- Hike Little Adam's Peak, Ella: An easy, rewarding trek with panoramic views over Ella's valleys and tea-covered slopes, especially beautiful at sunrise.
- Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Kandy: Buddhism's most sacred pilgrimage site in Sri Lanka, with a moving evening puja ceremony featuring traditional drumming. Entry approximately LKR 1,500 (Rs. 440).
- Snorkel at Pigeon Island, Trincomalee: Clear water, vibrant coral, reef sharks, and tropical marine life. Best from May to September.
- Visit Turtle Hatcheries in Kosgoda: Sea turtle conservation up close, and the rare experience of watching baby turtles enter the ocean for the first time.

Sri Lanka Food Guide for Indian Travellers
Sri Lankan cuisine shares deep roots with South Indian cooking and will feel familiar to travellers from Kolkata, while still being distinct enough to be genuinely exciting. Rice and curry served with numerous accompaniments, hoppers (crispy fermented rice bowls), string hoppers, kottu roti, and pol sambol (fresh coconut relish) form the backbone of the everyday menu. Expect bolder spicing than most Bengali home cooking, but nothing that isn't manageable.
Must-Try Dishes:
- Rice and curry - The national centrepiece, eaten at lunch, with as many small curry accompaniments as the kitchen will send
- Egg hopper - A crispy, bowl-shaped fermented rice crepe with a soft-cooked egg in the centre; a perfect breakfast or light dinner
- Kottu roti - Shredded flatbread stir-fried with vegetables, egg, and curry; the distinctive rhythmic chopping is the sound of Sri Lankan street food culture
- Crab curry - Richer and more complex than most Indian crab preparations; the Jaffna-style version is particularly worth seeking out
- Pol sambol - Freshly grated coconut with red onion, chilli, and lime; deceptively simple and addictive with everything

Practical Travel Tips for Kolkata Travellers – SIM, Money, Safety & More
- SIM card: Pick up a Dialogue or Mobitel tourist SIM at the Colombo airport arrivals hall (approximately Rs. 500–800, including a data pack). Airtel, Jio, and Vi all offer Sri Lanka international roaming packs from around Rs. 599 for 7 days, worth checking before departure.
- Money: Sri Lanka is a cash-friendly destination. ATMs in Colombo, Kandy, and Galle accept Indian Visa/Mastercard without issue. For smaller towns and areas near Yala or Ella, carry sufficient LKR cash. Exchange INR to LKR at authorised exchange counters in Colombo city; airport kiosks typically offer the worst rates. At June 2026 rates, 1 INR buys approximately 3.40 LKR, giving Indian travellers a meaningful cost advantage throughout the trip.
- Language: Sinhala and Tamil are official languages; English is widely spoken across hotels, tourist areas, and car-with-driver services. Communication challenges are minimal.
- Power adapters: Sri Lanka uses Type D and G plugs. Most standard Indian Type D (round three-pin) plugs work in some Sri Lankan sockets, but a universal adapter removes all uncertainty.
- Dress code: Temples require covered shoulders and knees throughout the island. A light scarf or shawl takes up no space and solves this for most situations. At elephant experiences, avoid bright colours that may agitate the animals.
- Safety: Sri Lanka is one of South Asia's safer destinations for independent and family travel. Standard urban precautions apply in Colombo's Pettah market; it is busy and crowded, so watch your pockets. Heed flag warnings when swimming on the south coast, as rip currents affect some beaches.
- Health: No mandatory vaccinations are required for Indian citizens, though Hepatitis A and Typhoid immunisation is commonly recommended. Pack personal mosquito repellent, particularly if visiting Yala, Wilpattu, or the northern province.

I had a great experience planning my Sri Lanka trip with PickYourTrail. The itinerary was well organized, the hotels matched what was promised, and all transfers were smooth. The app was easy to use, and having all the vouchers and travel details in one place made the trip stress-free. What stood out the most was their customer support. They were responsive whenever I had questions before the trip and were flexible in helping customize parts of my itinerary. Everything went largely as planned, which made traveling solo much more comfortable. A couple of small improvements could be providing final travel documents a little earlier and offering more proactive suggestions for local experiences, but these were minor and didnt affect the overall experience. Overall, Id happily recommend PickYourTrail to anyone looking for a hassle-free, well-planned international holiday. Looking forward to booking another trip with them in the future!

Had an amazing experience with PYT for our Sri Lanka trip. Right from planning to execution, everything was handled seamlessly. A big thanks to Kamali for putting together a well-balanced itinerary that perfectly covered all key places without feeling rushed. Ragul ensured a smooth pre-boarding experience, guiding us clearly through all the requirements and making the start of the trip completely stress-free. During the trip, Harikrishna was extremely responsive and supportive. It was reassuring to have someone available at all times for any queries or coordination, this really made a difference. The overall arrangements, driver, vehicle, travel flow, and experiences, were excellent. Everything was well-organized and executed professionally. The only area of improvement would be one of the hotel stays in Bentota, which didnt meet expectations. Apart from that, the entire trip was fantastic. Overall, a great experience with PYT. Would definitely recommend them for a hassle-free and well-managed vacation.

The trip was thoughtfully planned and well executed, making the entire experience smooth and stress-free for us as parents. There was a minor check-in issue at the Bentota hotel on the first day from the hotels side, but apart from that, everything was handled efficiently by the team. Special thanks to Austin for the planning and to Adithyan, Nimmy, Abhinaya, and Devi for their timely support throughout the trip. The driver was polite, the stays were comfortable, and the journey felt seamless overall. It truly became a memorable first birthday celebration for our baby.

Id like to share my experience with PickYourTrail. Overall, it was a good experiencethough with a little more planning on my part, it could have been great. I dont fault the team, as I booked the trip on very short notice and should have done some additional research myself. That said, the teams support and assistance were excellent throughout. A special thanks to Rishika, my first point of contact, who helped plan the trip, and to Adithyan, who provided 24/7 support while I was in Sri Lanka. My queries were addressed almost immediately, which made the journey smooth and stress-free. Great team, I would definitely recommend them for booking any travel plans!

Our driver was extremely kind, helpful, and guided us throughout the journey suggesting great places shop, and dine. We had a great experience, created lots of beautiful memories, and truly enjoyed every moment. A special thanks to Hemanth and Abinaya from the Pick Your Trail team for organizing this amazing trip. The support team was also very responsive and helped us with all our queries throughout the journey.

I recently booked a trip to Sri Lanka with Pick Your Trail, and while the overall experience was good, there are areas where improvement is needed. The planning stage of the trip was smooth, with the sales representatives answering my queries and curating the trip according to my requests. However, once the payment was made, there was a prolonged silence regarding the actual bookings. The trip planner assigned to me delayed confirmations for 12-13 days, causing most of the finalized hotels to sell out. It took numerous follow-ups from my side, and only after Mr. Ajit KS intervened did his team, led by Mr. Vignesh, act swiftly to confirm the bookings. Pre-trip experience: Before Mr. Ajit's involvement, I would rate the booking process 2/5, but after his intervention, it improved significantly to 4.5/5. On-trip experience: The trip was smooth and enjoyable, earning an overall 4/5. Most properties were good, the driver was supportive, and the car, though a bit old, was well-maintained. There was one property that was poorly maintained, with insect issues, but Pick Your Trail, particularly Mr. Dinesh, promptly helped arrange alternate accommodation at short notice. Overall, the trip itself was enjoyable, and I appreciate Pick Your Trail's support during on-trip issues. However, for a truly seamless experience, improvements in the booking process and communication post-payment are essential. Would I book with Pick Your Trail again? Possibly, but only with assurances of an end-to-end smooth experience.
