Hanuman Tok- All You Need to Know About This Buddhist Center

Hanuman Tok is a Hindu temple complex in the upper reaches of Sikkim Indian province capital Gangtok. The temple is devoted and restored by the Indian army to Lord Hanuman. In the local language, the word “Tok” means temple. It is a symbol of religious heritage in India.

Gangtok is the capital of the Northern Indian mountainous state of Sikkim. Established in the 1840s as a Buddhist pilgrimage spot, the town became capital of an autonomous kingdom after the end of British rule but entered India in 1975. Today it remains a Tibetan Buddhist centre and a hub for hikers arranging trekking permits across the Himalayan Mountain Ranges of Sikkim.

Overview

It is located at 7,200 ft altitude and on a road that branches off from the Gantok-Nathula Highway (just before the 3rd Mile Check Post). It is situated 11kms away from the town of Gangtok. Locals claim Lord Hanuman had taken a moment’s pause at this spot while he was on his journey from the Himalayas to Lanka. He brought sanjeevani herbs to cure Lakshman. The temple is popularly known as the temple that fulfils wishes. Locals used to worship a stone in here for centuries, as the legend says. A political officer called Appaji Pant had a holy vision at this location in the 1950s and the Lord Hanuman idol had been installed here after that. Since then the temple has been known locally as the Tok Hanuma. This entire region was handed over to the Indian Army in 1968. It is now maintained and maintained by Army’s 17 Mountain Division Units.

This place offers a splendid view of the surrounding hills and valleys, and from Hanuman Tok, you can also see the city’s amazing sight. While there are no admission fees for the pilgrims, the temple authority does accept donations.

The best time to visit the site is March through June. It is pleasant to travel throughout the daytime. The weather is also best suited at this time for this expedition

Getting there

Hanuman Tok is a popular Gangtok tourism destination and included in the regular local package sightseeing tours that taxi drivers are selling.
