  1. Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival): Celebrated on March 3rd, Hina Matsuri is a festival that honors young girls in Japan. Families with young daughters set up a display of dolls and offer peach blossoms, rice cakes, and other special foods to celebrate the occasion.
  2. Omizutori: This is a series of Buddhist rituals held at Nara’s Todaiji Temple from March 1st to 14th. One of the highlights is the nightly “water-drawing” ceremony, in which monks draw water from a well on the temple grounds and use it to bless the attendees.
  3. Osaka International Women’s Marathon: Held annually on the 2nd Sunday of March, this marathon is the oldest women-only marathon in the world. Participants from around the world gather in Osaka to run the 42.195 km course.
  4. St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Yes, you read that right! Tokyo hosts a St. Patrick’s Day parade on the Sunday closest to March 17th. The parade includes traditional Irish music and dance, as well as plenty of green decorations and outfits.
  5. Hanami (Cherry Blossom Viewing): While not an official event, hanami is a beloved springtime activity in Japan. As the cherry blossoms start to bloom in late March, people gather in parks and gardens to admire the beautiful pink flowers and enjoy picnics with friends and family.
