The construction of the Opera house began in 1861 and took almost eight years to complete it. The magnificent building which was opened in May 1869 featured with an imposing Neo-Renaissance style which reflects the origin of the art. Initially, it was called the Vienna Court Opera until it was renamed as the Vienna State Opera in 1920. Unexpectedly the World War 2 bombing damaged some of the major parts of the Opera House. Later on, the building was restored to its original splendour which was between 1948 -1956.
