Transportation in the Maldives

The Island of the Maldives can be easily covered by foot, be it private or public islands. This is one of the main reasons why you will not be able to find any car rentals in the Maldives. But do note that Taxis operate in the larger part of the islands. But for an economic friendly trip, walking across the island will be cheap and economical. There are many options for you to travel from one island to another and you will be seeing the various options that we are going to present. So here is the list of ways of transportation in the Maldives.

Taxi

Addu and Male in the Maldives are the two places where you can spot taxis widely and is also popular for road transport. So they have a very efficient taxi service. In Mahe, you do have a comfortable taxi ride that you can avail very easily. This will be your mode of transport from the airport to the city. These taxies charge 20 MVR for any distance and raise about 10 MVR more after 11 PM. Shared taxi in the Maldives is a very common thing. This is because it is a small place and hence it can pick up multiple passengers at a time. The easiest way to get your taxi is from your hotel itself. So yes, look for a shared cab when you are in the Maldives. It can be easy and quick as well.
