History of Doi Inthanon National Park

This region was previously called Doi Luang or Doi Ang Ka by the local tribes which translate to ‘the big mountain’. Doi Inthanon gets its name from the last emperor of Chiang Mai– Inthayawichayananon who absolutely loved all things nature so it was only fair to name this beautiful park after His Majesty. This surreal retreat was established in the year 1972 and has become a favourite spot for tourists ever since.

Best time to visit Doi Inthanon National Park

Given this region is at a very high altitude, hiking here in winter is not such a good idea as it can get freezing cold. The temperature during December is typically anywhere between 4-8 degrees celsius so unless you are sure of managing in such weather, it is not advisable. The visibility is poor as well during winters so it is not the safest thing to do.

The skies are bright and the clouds will follow you as you spot unique animals in their habitat so you’d be doing yourself a favour by checking this out.

How to Reach Doi Inthanon National Park

The best way to get here would be to hire a car with a driver for the entire day. This is a very economical option but if you’re in the mood for a road trip, this could be the perfect opportunity to make that happen. The roads are fairly wide and the drive is not hard so you can easily find your way around as long as you are good with GPS. You could also hire a motorcycle and ride all the way up here if that sounds better. It would take you about an hour and a half to get there by road.
