Eiffel Tower in Paris – The Incredible Iron Lady

Whether it was in the History textbooks or in the Bollywood dance numbers, it can be said with absolute certainty that everyone would have seen the architectural marvel of Eiffel Tower in Paris at least once in their lifetime and dreamt of seeing it with naked eyes. The 324 meters tall Iron lady has been standing tall in the French capital for 130 years and it is one of the best places to visit in Europe. It is not only a tourist attraction but also a symbol to commemorate the French revolution. Despite the sightseeing, there will be light shows and world-famous events. No wonder it is one of the seven wonders of the world as listed by the UNESCO.

What is the Eiffel Tower all about?

In spite of seeing it in the pictures and videos, Eiffel Tower in Paris never fails to surprise anyone who gets to see it in person. The sheer magnificence of the tower can be just understood by the fact that the square base is 125 metres on all its sides. One can’t avoid the adrenaline rushing through them when they make their way through the three levels of the tower. There are observation decks on each of the levels and each one of them provides with a unique view over the city of love. There are restaurants, bars and other entertainment outlets for the tourists in the lower two levels. You can use stairs or elevators to reach these levels. However, the third level which is the summit level is mostly reached by elevator. Regardless of the level, the Iron lady will give you a mind-boggling experience.

How to reach the Eiffel tower?

The Eiffel tower is located on the west of the Paris city centre along the banks of the River Seine. All major public transportation is easily accessible from here. You can reach the Eiffel tower by bus, metro or an RER.

By bus: You can catch bus 82 and bus 42 to the Eiffel tower and bus 87 or bus 89 to the Champ de Mars.

By metro: You can catch a line 6 metro and get down at the Bir-Hakeim stop which is the closest metro station to the Eiffel tower. The way from the station to the tower will be along the banks of River Seine. You can also catch a line 6 or line 9 to the Trocadéro stop which is a bit farther than Bir-Hakeim. However, the lovely view of the Eiffel Tower from the steps of the Palais de Chaillot and the walk through the gardens as they make a great entrance to the tower compensates the extra distance. Getting on Line 8 metro to the Ecole Militaire stop will also be a way to reach the spot.

By RER: The RER helps to reach the city centre from the suburban part of the city. It can sometimes be a quicker alternative across the city since it has fewer stops. Hopping into the Line C RER to the Champs de Mars – Eiffel Tower stop will help in reaching the place.

Public transport in Paris is well managed and they are well connected. However, be alert as you commute through Public transport as you might be exposed to Pickpocketers.

Best time to visit the Iron Lady

The modern marvel is an astonishing place to visit at any point of the day. However, there are certain parts of the day which will help you have a pleasanter experience. The peak hours at the Eiffel tower are 11 AM and 5 PM on weekdays. The peak hour in weekends is from the time of opening till 7 PM. If you want to avoid the crowd, the best time to visit would be at mealtimes, in particular, the lunchtime or after 9 PM. A winter day or a foggy day could also reduce the crowd present in the place.

With respect to enjoying the best views, the ideal time would be to visit just before the sunset as you can have a piece of both the heavenly feasts to the eye – Paris during the day and Paris during the night. If you love lights, then visit the Iron lady decorated with her lights and experience the stunning spectacle. There is a beacon which irradiates light beams that lits up the night reaching about 80 km in the sky. There are over  20,000 lights attached to the tower which gives the tower a spectacular look every 5 minutes in an hour until 1 AM. Eiffel tower at night gives a whole new dimension to the magnificence of the monument.
