Frequently Asked Questions About Thailand

The terrain, climate, activities, cuisine, and cultures of the north and south of the nation are very different. Thailand's northern region is forested and includes mountains, valleys, and jungles. So you can choose from activities like - Trekking, going to an elephant sanctuary, perusing artisan shops, meeting hill tribes, or visiting several temples. The northern region is an amazing location for engaging in cultural activities and trying out jungle-related pursuits.

Coming to the southern region of Thailand - the location offers many islands and beaches worth visiting. The majority of visitors head to the southern region to enjoy the sand, sea, and sun. Island hopping, snorkelling, and sea kayaking are popular water-based sports to be seen here. There are other land-based activities available as well, such as exploring the jungle and observing wildlife, especially when in Khao Sok National Park.

Travel options between the eastern and western coasts mainly boil down to budget and time constraints. Wonderful beaches and attractions can be found on both Thailand's east and west coasts, and both offer island hopping (whether for a day trip or an overnight stay). The best time to travel differs slightly between the two coasts, with the east coast having a better travel window from April to September and the west coast from November to April.

The following are some main annual events and festivals that are worth noting -

  1. Songkran festival - Every year on April 13, Thailand celebrates the Songkran (Water Festival). This event is comparable to a big water fight. Avoid attending this festival unless you don't mind getting soaked and having fun!
  2. Chinese New Year - The first day of the Chinese calendar is known as Chinese New Year (typically January or February). Although there are celebrations and festivities all around the country, Chinatown in Bangkok is the best location. There will be a lot of traffic and noise because of how many people will attend this event. It is advised to stay away from travelling at this time if you want a tranquil or more quiet getaway.
  3. Full and Half Moon parties - These celebrations are held every month on the half- and full-moon nights at Koh Pha Ngan. 10,000 or more young people go to the island for these activities, which can increase traffic and noise levels. Unless you're travelling to the island, particularly for a party, it is advisable to avoid travelling there during this period.

Yes! In a nutshell, Thailand is definitely a family-friendly destination. With offerings like a safari camp experience at Elephant Hills or water-based activities in locales like the Andaman Sea, family fun is always on the table.

You should schedule your travels to Thailand between the months of October and March to have the best experience. Given that the Gulf of Thailand  ( Koh Samui region ) has a different weather pattern, the best time to visit here changes from January to August. With an itinerary including the Andaman Sea - you should consider travelling from November to April.
