History of National Mosque Of Malaysia

The name of the mosque was decided to be given in recognition of the Chief Minister at the time of British rule, who also succeedingly became the Prime Minister of the nation. Yet, when he declined the honour, the mosque was called as Masjid Negara.

Established in 1965 which is the year that Malaysia and Singapore split. It was created by UK architect Howard Ashley and Malaysians Hisham Albakri and Baharuddin Kassim. The 73m-high minaret is easily the National Mosque Of Malaysia’s most distinct characteristic and a striking highlight of the Kuala Lumpur skyline. Also notable are the gorgeous outdoor gardens with white marble pools and fountains. The pink-tiled roof was reconstructed with blue and green tiles when the mosque underwent large improvements in 1987.
