History behind the history of the Museum

After the fall of Saigon, in 1975, the government of Vietnam opened this “Exhibition House for Crimes of War and Aggression.” This iconic museum documents all the brutal history from the American war. Referred to as one of the top war museums of the world, your visit here can be both exciting and shocking as well.

Apart from primarily showcasing American atrocities, some remains from the French-colonial period and conflicts with China are also well documented. Upstairs, your visit to the Requiem Exhibition is a must showcasing works from legendary war photographer Tim Page.

How to reach the War Remnants Museum

The most convenient way to reach this museum is by a private taxi. These are readily available from major touristy areas. Your trip will cost you around 60,000 VND ($3 USD) from District 1. However, beware of the fake taxi companies that exploit foreign tourists. Vinasun (white with red and green trim) or Mai Linh (green) are the two major trusted taxi companies which are highly recommended. • Entrance fees: 20,000 VND ($1 USD) per foreigner and around 4,000 VND for the locals
• Time to visit: 7.30 am – 12 pm and 1 pm – 6 pm, from Mon to Sun.

Highlights from the War Remnants Museum

Large pieces of authentic war artefacts are the first things to catch your sight while your visit to the War Remnants Museum. However, The F-5A fighter at the front entrance will leave you awe-struck for a moment! While all your exhibits in the outside are impressive, what you witness in the inside will have the deepest of impact.

Horrific, brutal and raw displays of photographs can be prominently seen. Documentary of “Agent Orange”- 5 million people exposed to grisly and strong pesticides will stay in your memories for a long time. You will also witness the historic photographs of Japanese photographer Ishikawa Bunyo, Tim Page in here. While children are allowed to visit, we would highly recommend against it.
