Places to Visit in Malaysia

Malaysia is a multicultural land. It offers its tourists a wide variety of fun engagements to partake in no matter what their budgets or tastes may be. The country has both modern cities and smaller towns that are pleasantly old-fashioned. One can hop from cosmopolitan city attractions like shopping hubs to monasteries in a matter of hours. Such is the range of Malaysia. Given the variety that is on offer, here is a list of the 10 best places in Malaysia worth visiting:-

Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur - Standing tall at a height of 452 metres, the Petronas Twin Towers are the tallest twin towers in the whole world. This behemoth has a total of 88 floors which are accessible by an impressive total number of 76 elevators. The building is made from reinforced concrete, steel, and glass. The connection between the two towers is facilitated by twin sky bridges on the 41st and 42nd floors. The bridge makes for a great viewing spot for the rest of the city in addition to the park which sprawls over 6.9 hectares. These views are especially spectacular at night. While the towers primarily comprise of commercial spaces rented out to serve as company offices, the lower floors are home to the Suria KLCC. The Suria is one of the largest shopping spaces in Malaysia. It has several stores to keep even the most eclectic of shoppers entertained. It also features an art gallery, a Philharmonic Hall, and much more. With so much to see and enjoy, the Petronas Twin Towers makes for a great addition to your Malaysia tour package.

Batu Caves, Selangor - These cave systems are located just an hour away from Kuala Lumpur. These consist of three main caves in addition to many smaller ones. A visit here is sure to leave you with an otherworldly feeling, such is the charm of these hidden attractions. This makes it a worthwhile addition to your Malaysia package. Most caves here feature statues and 100-year-old shrines dedicated to Hindu deities. The main attraction here is the Cathedral Cave. The main cave is accessible after an ascent on the 272 colourful steps. Tourists are then greeted with statues, altars, and lights illuminating the space. The glitz is not just limited to the top as one is greeted with a giant religious statue at the bottom. This 43 metre tall gold statue of Lord Murugan is made out of gold. We recommend you visit these cave systems during the Hindu festival of Thaipusam to join in the local festivities.

Mount Kinabalu, Sabah - Mount Kinabalu is the tallest mountain in all of Malaysia. It comes under Kinabalu Park. This park is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the oldest parks in the country. It has a rather unique ecosystem with a combination of shrub lands, grasslands, and alpine meadows. Owing to this ecosystem, these lands are home to an incredible variety of flora and fauna. Because of its height, Mount Kinabalu is popular among climbers. However, because of the challenges that it poses, the park issues a limited 185 climb permits every day. In addition to that, climbers must make reservations for accommodations and a guide in advance. The climb is a serious business indeed, we recommend tourists take their time with this activity. It is advisable that visitors stay for a bit at the Kinabalu National Park to acclimatise themselves to the altitude. Mount Kinabalu is a challenging and beautiful attraction that deserves a spot on Malaysia tour packages from India.

Perhentian Islands - Perhentian Islands have all the idyllic quality one expects on a tropical escape. Historically, it was a stop for traders travelling in Southeast Asia. Over time, it has become part of a marine park and subsequently a major tourist destination as well. There are 2 major islands here that offer modern amenities. These are Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil. Out of these, Pulau Perhentian Kecil is more suited to families as it is more upscale. It is recommended you opt for the walking trails for travel here, these offer jungle paths and stunning water views along the way. There is plenty to do here - scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, and much more. If a tropical island escape is on your mind, then you should definitely look into Malaysia island holiday packages.

Sipadan Islands - The Sipadan Islands and the surrounding water make for the richest marine habitat in the entire world. It is home to several species of land and aquatic wildlife - hawksbill turtle, monitor lizards, whale sharks, and much more. Not only that, it is considered one of the best dive spots in the entire world. As a result of the diversity here, these regions are fiercely protected. Tourists can access the island via boat and then explore the lands on foot. Beautiful as it is, these lands don’t cater to accommodation and hence one has to seek lodging on the nearby Mabul Island. Hence, these islands make a great addition to your Malaysia trip package.

Gunung Mulu National Park - The sixth entry on our list is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is most popular because of its karst limestone pinnacles, but its massive caves are just as spectacular. One is greeted by thick rainforests that make progress inwards somewhat arduous. This is partly the reason behind the late discovery of these cave systems. We say partly because the other reason is the sheer scale of these caves. These caves also hold the record of containing the largest passage and the largest underground chamber in the world. One of the primary attractions here is the Deer Cave. It features tall ceilings at 122 metres high and waterfalls falling through rocks. Other attractions here include the Sarawak Chamber and the Paku Waterfall. If you are up for a bit of a challenge then consider the Pinnacles Summit Trek. It involves ropes, harnesses, and a lot more, and like we said earlier - poses a challenge. This offbeat destination deserves a place on your Malaysia tour package from India.

Penang Hills - Penang Hill’s peaks are accessible via Penang Hill Railways. It is an air-conditioned locomotive that covers a 2007-meter-long climb in a mere 10 minutes at most. There are mid-stops in a way that are used if requested by the passengers. The biggest highlight of this attraction are the views that can be seen from the top of the hills. It is also home to Habitat Penang Hill. It features a 1.6 KM nature trail that cuts through lush rain forests and several tropical gardens. Other attractions include a canopy walk which is 40 metres high and ziplines. If you are after enchanting views then head to the Skydeck. It has 3 viewing decks on offer and promises stunning views of the bay and the islands.

Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre - If you consider yourself an animal lover, then you definitely can’t miss out on this one. The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation centre was established in 1964. Its aim is to rescue orphaned orangutan babies from the pet trade or illegal hunting. It not only rescues the creature but also helps them learn to survive in the wild so that they can one day be released back into the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. As of now, about 80 orangutans live in the reserve. While direct one-on-one interaction is not allowed, visitors can learn more about them and the challenges they must face, during a trip. In addition to that, they can also see these adorable creatures through glass windows and attend the feeding sessions. There is also a boardwalk which gives visitors a good view of seeing these creatures in their element.

Kek Lok Si Temple, George Town - Kek Lok Si is the country’s largest Buddhist temple. It sits at the bottom of Air Itam mountain. While it is new owing to its relatively modern origin period of the 1890s, the surrounding 10,000 buddhas along with the large seven-story pagoda make for a formidable sight. The temple is also surrounded by gardens, fish ponds, and prayer halls, creating a rather zen atmosphere. There are also stalls nearby that sell souvenirs for the tourists to take back home. Owing to its popularity, the temple attracts many visitors from all over the region - to "make merits". It is also one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the area. We recommend you visit this religious site during the Chinese New Year celebrations as the entire space lights up with lanterns creating a surreal ambiance.

Langkawi SkyCab, Kedah - The Langkawi cable car connects the Base Station and the top of the Gunung Machinchang Mountain. The main attraction of this peak are the pedestrian sky bridge. In addition to that, there is also a middle station where travellers have access to a viewing platform. The journey from the bottom to the top is through glass bottom gondolas, and one can enjoy sweeping views of the bay. One will definitely appreciate the beauty of the Telaga Tujuh waterfall and the turquoise waters surrounding the island. The top station is also equipped with a bunch of amenities, like - two additional viewing platforms, a jungle trail, and much more. If great views are what you are after then you should definitely book a Malaysia and Langkawi package straight away.

If you are looking for a family vacation then Pickyourtrail is a must go option. Starting from the planning stage to then final execution there was no issues. They delivered what they promised and was also courteous enough to tell that this cannot happen sir due to time constraints. Every thing was neatly planned and executed especially the travelgenie app which made me comfortable that I am not lonely in a remote place. I had been to KL and Langkawi and Pickyourtrail had everything planned and executed with no trouble at all. Even minor things like nearest south indian restaurant location was meticulously supported even at 5.00 AM IST which actually surprised me. Some of their experiences were out of the world and really worth seeing. Summing up if you are going with your family and want to spend quality time then there is no other option than to go for this. I will surely go with Pickyourtrail for my future travels.
