Best Time to Visit Switzerland

Switzerland will offer you wonderful memories irrespective of the time at which you visit the country. The country offers different, unique experiences based on the time you travel. Switzerland experiences a Temperate climate throughout the year but if you are travelling only for adventure and want to experience the best of Skiing, Snow Gliding and Ice-skating, then you must visit during winter, the months from December to March. This is the peak season for the ski resorts like Gstaad and St Moritz and you can enjoy your adventurous holidays to this amazing land during this time. However, if you are looking for a cosy, mild holiday with a mix of all sightseeing, cruising and boating, then the best time to visit would be the months of April to June and September to October. During this time, the temperature is comparatively higher and it will be a perfect time for sightseeing and other activities. If you make a tour to Switzerland during October, it is a shoulder season and you can get hotels, activities and other kinds of stuff at lower dates. So, if you are a budget traveller, October is the perfect time for Switzerland

Below are the different seasons in Switzerland and what kind of experiences they provide.

Summer Season (July to August)

The Summer Season in Switzerland is also known as the High Season as most tourists converge into the country. And they do have a reason for it - the climate is pleasant and warm, making it the perfect time for sightseeing and beautiful landscapes. Even though the snow thaws during this time, there will be snow trails in the higher mountain regions suitable for trekking. This is the time of the year when the mountain resorts are open and you can have a pleasant stay in one of the beautiful resorts lying amidst the valleys. However, the prices are high during this season due to the high demand. Ultimately, if you love a good trek and enjoy the floral marvel of the mountains without getting affected by the snow, then this is the best time to visit. The average temperature during this season is around 25-28°C with an average rainfall of around 75-150 mm.

Spring Season (April to June )

Spring Season is a good season to visit Switzerland as the weather is not too cold but there is light snowfall enabling you to see what a snow marvel Switzerland is. It is right between the two peak seasons - the skiing season and the summer season and thus there will be less crowd during this season. This also makes the travel and accommodation costs cheaper. It is also a wet season but due to clear paths as the snow is absent, it makes a perfect time for hiking. It is also one of the best times to have scenic train rides across the country. Some of the best places to visit during this season are Lake Lugano, Lake Maggiore, and Ronco Sopra Ascona. The average temperature during this season is 15 – 22° C with an average rainfall of 140 – 170 mm.

Fall Season (September to October)

Fall is a great time to explore the various scenic landscapes in Switzerland and the amazing fall colours fill the country. It is also a shoulder season making travel less expensive than also the peak season. The crowd during this time is less and you can freely explore and take rides in cable rides, trains, and much more. The days are short during the season with slightly warmer temperatures during the day. This is also the perfect season for wine tasting as the grapes are harvested during this time. While you won’t be able to travel to the higher regions as the passes are closed in October, you can visit the beauty of mountains from the scenic shores of the Lakes on your Switzerland tour packages for couple from india. It is also an ideal time for paragliding and the best place to experience it is at Lake Brienz or Lake Thun. Interlaken is a must-visit during this season as the snow-capped mountains are at their best spectacle from September to October. The average temperature during the fall season in Switzerland is 14 – 24° C with a rainfall of 38 – 53 mm.

Winter Season (November to March)

Winter is a mix of both peak and shoulder season in Switzerland. While the resorts are closed with the country being filled with snow, the lakes turn into ice. But, this is the perfect time for skiing in the alps. A large number of travellers come into the country for skiing and hence the cost of accommodation and travel is near the skiing regions. Christmas is the time when a lot of people with their families travel to Switzerland to have a fun time in the snow-laden mountains. Some of the must-visit experiences on your Switzerland tour from India are Monte Rosa, Matterhorn, Gornergrat Railway, or the Klein Matterhorn Cable Car. The average temperature during this season is 5 – 10° C with rainfall of 25 – 195 mm.

      Reviews from Switzerland travellers

      Travelled to Switzerland, May 2022
"So it all started with the catchy site of Pickyourtrail. I would say it is one of the best travel sites I have seen, with very easy customizations and cost calculations. The planning for the trip to Switzerland and Italy was great with good suggestions provided, they were knowledgeable about the locations, distances ,means of transports and must watch things, also the customizations as per our needs were considered. There visa support team was also very supportive in following up with of our Visa status. All the hotel, internal travel vouchers and Swiss pass were provided right in time and to add to the perfection it was properly ordered. The support during trip is one very cool thing about them. They were actually very supportive in runtime arrangements. 2nd June was National day of Rome and we had return flight same morning. The roads near our hotel were closed but support team helped in early drop off to Airport. Overall it was an excellent experience. All the locations were superb and it was our one of our most memorable trip. Thanks to PYT team for making this one memorable. Would like to mention special thanks to Subbu, Suresh, Sahal, Customer support team and customer happiness team."

We had a wonderful Swiss vacation that was curated by Pickyourtrail. The team is engaged with you right from the day you express interest till days after you are back from the vacation, ensuring its your best experience ever! :) They ‘handhold’ you literally with their app which provides constant notifications and support on information about activities, local maps, eateries and even a currency converter. Thank you PYT!

We planned our vacation to Switzerland and Italy with pick your trail in April this year. It was a lovely experience. I recommend PYT because : 1. PYT gives flexibility in planning and you own your vacation plan. PYT team does help you with useful suggestions. 2. Their app and tools are way better than many giant travel planners. 3. Online support during vacation is good and you can expect help easily using the PYT app. 4. PYT team is supportive and proactive to assist before and during the vacation. I'll definitely consider PYT for my coming vacations.

I am a bit late in writing my review here but I owe these guys one. They helped us plan our Swiss trip which turned out to be the best trip so far. They were open to make any changes in our itinerary whenever we requested. Were kind enough to give extra info regarding the commute and places to visit. Will definitely go with pick your trail for future trips.

We jus got back from our honeymoon trip to switzerland and italy. Our experience with Pickyourtrail was totally amazing. Special thanks to Agni, Sanjay and Jaideep. Their meticulous planning, precise timings and attention to every small detail in our itinerary ensured that we had an amazing trip without any hassle. We would definitely choose them for our future trips. Thank you for everything.
