You will be able to view large size statues and figurines showing some of the gruesome punishments depicting hell. Many of these look very real so you might even see known faces here. Sam Phan Bok – Grand Canyon of Thailand

One of the most offbeat places in Thailand, Sam Phan Bok is a place that can be visited only during certain months. Addressed as the “Grand Canyon of Thailand”, it is situated in the middle of the River Khong. This is an islet that drowns during flood times. The surface erosion is due to the circular currents underwater of the Khong River. This erosion has led to the formation of 3000 or more small basins. The name “Sam Phan” in Thai and “Bok” in Lao means small basins. This is a spectacular beauty that should be visited during its best times. This is one of the offbeat places to visit in Thailand.

Wat Pariwar

From the outside, it appears to be a normal huge old building, a mainstream Buddhist temple. But that is not what Wat Pariwar is all about. Inside are some of the most unique colourful idols with some quirky touch to it. The interiors are just bliss but wait, that’s not it. To everyone’s surprise, you will also be able to view statues and figurines of famous personalities like Che Guevara, Albert Einstein, Captain America, Batman, Superman and many more. But the one who steals all the limelight is the football player David Beckham. This Idol was installed in 1998 during the WorldCup by the Thai sculptor as he thought that football is a new religion. This place is actually famous for this one statue.

Wat Rong Khun – White Temple

This temple that you are going to visit will be very different from the other temples that you will visit. The purpose of this temple and the appearance of it will be quite different and unique. This Wat Rong Khun (White temple) is an architectural masterpiece in itself. The intricate designs and the beautiful carvings on the roof of this bright white temple are just brilliant. Designed by Chalermchai Kositpipat, a famous Thai architect, the temple shimmers when the sun is up.

Death Railway – Kanchanaburi

There is a horrific history behind this construction of the death railway as it was built by the world war II prisoners and Asian slave labourers. The healthy and skilled prisoners of the world war II were used by the Japanese army after the colonization of South East Asia. Later, they were used for the purpose of building this railway line. This took around 16 months and over a hundred thousand labourers died building this. Earlier known as the Thailand-Burma Railway, it is called as the death Railway now.

The bridge over the river kwai is the place where the visitors can view the train passing by on the bridge. You can also visit the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery and Death Railway Museum and Research Centre, after visiting the Death railway. This offbeat place in Thailand is a must-visit for every traveller.
